If you are planning to take fishing trip, why don’t you spend it in different destination? Break the usual place you keep coming back every year. Trying something new is not as bad as you think, you know. A little change may help you experience another level of fun that salmon fishing gives you. Although Wisconsin salmon fishing is not as popular as other salmon fishing destinations in the country, you’ll be surprised to find out what it has to offer. Besides salmon fishing, the state of Wisconsin is capable of giving a wonderful time on your vacation with its natural beauty. Come fishing up north on the north wilderness areas of Wisconsin where you can see other wildlife. Doesn’t those extra pleasures you get from the beautiful view add up to your Wisconsin salmon fishing spree? Of course they would and those are exactly what you can expect from a Wisconsin salmon fishing get-away.

Wisconsin salmon fishing can take you up north where you can find blue lakes that are surrounded by woods making you feel lost in the wilderness. Several of those lakes offer vacation spots of all types to suit everyone’s needs. Guides, fishing boats, and snowmobiles are available for rent. Wisconsin salmon fishing is available all throughout the year as it is the popular outdoor activity. Lake Michigan and Lake Superior, with which both have pristine waters, offer your chance to fish and catch for king or Chinook salmon and Coho salmon. You can find almost every port of Wisconsin a fleet of charter fishing boats that are capable of taking groups of up to 6 persons. Charter fishing can take you trolling with downriggers or other methods of fishing that will give you the chance to encounter powerful, strong, and ready-to-fight salmon. Your Wisconsin salmon fishing trip is going to be an adventure you will never forget, especially when you experience the fight of a lifetime.

Wisconsin is home to some of the finest salmon fishing in the midwest. This state has Lake Michigan and a portion of Lake Superior to fish and these lakes offer anglers some outstanding fishing for chinook salmon and coho salmon. There are tons of fishing charters that take clients out of numerous ports throughout Wisconsin from spring through fall every year. Add all of the anglers that take their own boats onto the lakes and there are thousands upon thousands of anglers that enjoy Wisconsin’s salmon fishing.

In Wisconsin, there are plenty of harbors where you can launch your boat or hire a charter. Some of the harbors along the eastern side of the state on Lake Michigan are Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee, Port Washington, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Two Rivers, Kewaunee and Algoma. In Door County, you can launch your boat out of Sturgeon Bay, Egg Harbor, Baileys Harbor, Ephraim, Sister Bay, Ellison Bay and Washington Island. There are also ports to launch your boat in the Green Bay area and along the western shores of Green Bay. Don’t forget about Lake Superior either. Even though, Wisconsin only gets a small part of this lake, there is some excellent summer salmon fishing up here as well.

Some of the real popular areas to fish are Door County, Milwaukee, Kenosha and Racine. Door County is the place to go if you’re looking for a vacation. Door County is one of the best places to visit in the midwest and there is plenty to do for the whole family. You will find plenty of fishing charters as well in this area and the summers offer some fantastic fishing from the boat. Kenosha and Racine are very popular because you have the option of fishing from the boats in the spring, summer and fall, but there are also strong spawning runs up the root river in Racine and up the pike creek in Kenosha.

The Bad River, winding through northern Wisconsin, offers more than 40 miles of whitewater for kayaking and rafting. Beginning at Devil’s Gate footbridge in Ashland County, intermediate whitewater kayakers can brave class I through III rapids for 18.8 miles of scenic, mountainous views before ending at Elm Hoist Road. Another popular stretch of the Bad River for advanced whitewater kayaking also begins at Devil’s Gate footbridge and boasts 6.2 miles of class III-V rapids, as well as breathtaking views of the Gogebic Range in Wisconsin.

There are many other sections of the Bad River that offer fun and exciting whitewater kayaking adventures for experienced paddlers, as well as a few calmer Wisconsin kayaking rivers nearby. If you are planning on kayaking Bad River, there are a limited number of hotels in the area and a few nearby campgrounds. It is recommended that you make reservations for overnight accommodations in advance. The best time to kayak the Bad River is in the spring, but the landscape is quite colorful in the fall. A variety of plant and animal life is abundant along the undeveloped shoreline and Native American artifacts have been discovered as well.

The Montreal River, passing through Iron and Gogebic Counties in Wisconsin, offers 40 miles of whitewater kayaking for paddlers of all experience levels. The Erickson Road to Saxon Falls Dam section of the Montreal River is a relaxing 16.7 mile paddle with class I and II rapids, perfect for beginners or to warm up for the highly difficult western fork of the river. The challenging western branch of the Montreal River features class II through V rapids and several waterfalls for an ultimate whitewater kayaking experience.

Accommodations can be found at several nearby hotels and campgrounds. The water gates at the area dams can create very low water levels at times, so it is recommended to check on gate openings before planning your whitewater kayaking trip. If the water is too low, the Montreal River is practically impassable. You can also enjoy hiking to Wisconsin’s beautiful waterfalls or whitewater kayaking on the other numerous rivers nearby.

Opening day of walleye fishing is in May and you will want to get your boat in the water before that day because if you do not, you will have a long line at the boat ramps. This is true of any lake or river that has seasonal walleye fishing restrictions. What you want to do is fine a lake or area where the walleye are present but know one takes the time to fish. There are places in Wisconsin that you can go and have a fulfilled day of walleye fishing. Wisconsin is big enough for everyone, but small enough to travel short distance to find some great places to fish.

Waukesha has some great areas for walleye fishing. Oconomowoc Lake and Lac La Bella are two popular places to fish for walleye. If you are looking for that one fish to hang on your wall, you will catch it at one of these lakes. Bella has a one walleye a day limit, which makes it an odd place to fish, but Oconomowoc, has a three walleye a day limit. Bella has to be twenty inches to keep and eighteen inches at Oconomowoc. Still, these are lakes to try because nobody utilizes them. Big Yellow Lake is another great walleye fishing lake. The best time to fish this lake is around the end of May during the post-spawning season. You can fishing around the island during the summer months and find the walleye in the area if the water as a low light during certain times of the day. You can use a jig with a minnow or a shiner and a split shot works just as well. This is a good lake to fish, but you do have to know some of the top places to fish. The area anglers can tell you were to find the hot spots for the particular day.

Wisconsin is represented by major league teams in the three most popular spectator sports in the United States: American football, baseball, and basketball. Lambeau Field, located in Green Bay, Wisconsin is home to the National Football League’s Green Bay Packers. The Packers have been part of the NFL since the league’s second season in 1921 and currently hold the record for the most NFL titles, earning the city of Green Bay the nickname “Titletown”. The Green Bay Packers are one of the most successful small-market professional sports franchises in the world and have won 12 NFL championships, including the first two Super Bowl games and Super Bowl XXXI. The city fully supports their team, as evidenced by the 60,000 person waiting list for season tickets to Lambeau Field, which is referred to as the “frozen tundra” and is considered by many football enthusiasts to be “hallowed ground.” Such a strong fan following brings strong ratings during national Monday Night Football. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Badgers football program, playing at Camp Randall Stadium, enjoys similar loyalty; both teams are known to sell out their entire schedules far in advance. The Milwaukee Brewers, the state’s only major league baseball team, are based out of Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Before Miller Park was opened in the year 2001, the Brewers played their home games at County Stadium. In 1982, the Brewers won the American League Championship, marking their most successful season. The Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association play home games at the Bradley Center. The Bucks won the NBA Championship in 1971. The state also has minor league teams in hockey (Milwaukee Admirals) and baseball (the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, based in Appleton.)

In addition to professional teams, Wisconsin is home to many successful college sports programs. The Wisconsin Badgers, teams based out of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, hold many NCAA division championship titles in their respective sports. This includes a historic dual-championship in 2006 when both the women’s and men’s hockey teams won national titles. The Wisconsin football team has also seen much success after the hiring of Barry Alvarez as head coach. Alvarez lead the Badgers to three Rose Bowl victories, including back to back victories in the years 1999 and 2000.

The Marquette Golden Eagles of the Big East Conference are the state’s other major collegiate program. They are known nationally for their Men’s Basketball team which, under the direction of Al McGuire, won the NCAA National Championship in 1977. The team, led by Dwyane Wade, returned to the Final Four in 2003.
